Practices we partner with

Halbern has been taking on practices in British Columbia for more than thirty years, and it has always worked the same way: close to home, one at a time, and never in a hurry.

Dental

General and specialty dental practices. The structure here is necessarily different: the practice, its clinical authority, and its licensing remain with the licensed dentist, while Halbern takes on the premises, equipment, administrative staff, and systems under a management services agreement. Insurance and CDCP claims administration, hygiene scheduling, and associate recruitment are where we do the most.

15,000 openings against 8,500 new dentists

Canada projects 15,000 dentist job openings between 2024 and 2033 and roughly 8,500 people entering to fill them. Source: Canadian Occupational Projection System, Employment and Social Development Canada.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation

Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, massage therapy, kinesiology, and chiropractic — including multidisciplinary practices running several of these under one roof. Extended health billing, ICBC and WorkSafeBC claims administration, and clinician recruitment are the three things that consume the most owner time, and the three we are set up to absorb entirely.

Endoscopy and procedural clinics

Physician-led endoscopy and day-procedure facilities. These carry accreditation, scheduling, and equipment obligations that a general management company cannot pick up on the fly, and they are a meaningful part of what Halbern already runs.

What we look for

We are not indifferent about which practices we take on, and it is fairer to say so plainly than to let someone find out after four weeks of diligence.

What draws our interest

Where we are usually not the right fit

Eight years or more of operating history in the same community

Practices in serious financial difficulty — a turnaround needs a different kind of buyer than we are

A team that has been in place for a while and wants to stay

Very new practices without an established patient base

Revenue that does not depend entirely on one practitioner

Situations where the owner intends to leave immediately and entirely

Financial records that are clean enough to be understood in an afternoon

Practices where an ongoing College or regulatory matter has not been resolved

An owner who cares more about what happens to the team than about squeezing the last five percent out of the terms

Anywhere the owner would prefer to run an auction — we will not be the highest bidder, and we would rather say so early than waste your time

An owner who wants to keep practising, whether that's for two more years or twenty

A location with a lease that has real time left on it, or premises the owner owns

If your practice sits outside these, it is still worth an email. The list describes what is usual, not what is possible.

Where we work

  • Fraser Valley

Vancouver Island and the Okanagan are within reach and we are talking to owners in both. Beyond British Columbia, every province regulates these professions differently and there is no version of this work that is simply copied across a border. We will expand when we can do it properly, and not before.

If any of this sounds like your practice, get in touch.

Even if the answer is that we are not the right fit, you will get a straight explanation of why, which is more than most first conversations produce.
